RIT Historic Campus

Like many older institutions, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has a rich history. Unknown to many of its current students, however, is the fact that this well-established university in the suburbs of Rochester, New York, was once located in the heart of the city itself. Until 1969, the significantly smaller RIT campus was a staple of downtown Rochester, but its move to the suburbs led to the demolition and sale of many of its former buildings. 50 years after the move, little remains of the school’s original downtown campus.

This interactive, 3D map shows the history of RIT's campus. Maps allow us to see where we have been, so in viewing this map we are placed into the history of RIT and see how far we've come.
